Hope University College

Graduation 2014

When Dr. Minas, the CEO of Hope Enterprises, repeatedly presented the opening of a college as an agenda item, he was asked to write the profile of the college he envisioned.  Dr. Minas prepared and presented to the Board a profile of the Hope University College.  The profile document included a description of the private colleges that have mushroomed in all the regions of Ethiopia, with most of them having aspirations to make profit from the education sector. The idea was acclaimed and unanimously approved agreeing on the uniqueness of the new college to be an institution of higher learning with emphasis on values-based education.

Subsequent events leading to the building and equipping of Hope University College are well documented.  What cannot be passed without mention is the major investment that Woord en Daad, Ethiopiaid and Menlo Park Presbyterian Church as well as other contributors have done in making it possible for the college to be built and furnished.  The challenge is for the local community to make the college sustainable. It was four years after the contractor started building in 2007 that Hope University College became a reality in October 2011 when it was officially inaugurated.

Regarding Hope University College, now we are in 2014, three years after the opening of the college, ready to witness and participate in the events of the commencement of the first graduates. This event deserves celebration. 71 students graduated from the university college on July 26, 2014.
